Codemasters
were setup in the mid 80's by 2 C64 programmers, Richard & David
Darling. Having previously written their own games which were distributed
by Mastertronic, they decided to setup on their own. Codemasters specialised
in action/adventure games that you move a character around with keys,
press a key to get an item and another to drop one. The games were
mostly released for Spectrum on tapes. They rapidly became one of
the largest budget houses, and were essentially left to run the show
when Mastertronic were swallowed up by Virgin.
In 1999 Codemasters bought Yosemite Entertainment (originally the
development portion of Sierra On-Line), after Sierra was acquired
by Havas and started divesting its various development outfits.
